Tithing In The New Testament – Hebrews 7:8

“In the one case mortal men receive tithes, but in the other he of whom it is witnessed that he is alive receives them.”

Many believers in the Body of Christ today say tithing – bringing a tenth of your income and increase to The Lord in worship – is an old covenant ordinance, no longer relevant in this new covenant dispensation. Nothing could be further from the truth. Jesus Himself was a tither. Deuteronomy 26, part of the Torah, or the Law, includes God’s direction to the children of Israel on bringing their tithe before the Lord. Jesus said, “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets. I have not come to abolish, but to fulfill” (Matthew 5:17). He also said, “…I have kept my Father’s commandments and remain in His love” (John 15:10). Jesus was the sinless, spotless Lamb of God, slain from the foundation of the world (1 Peter 1:19-20; Revelation 13:8). He kept His Father’s commandments without spot (John 15:10; 1 Peter 2:21-22).

In Genesis 14, when Abraham returned from the slaughter of the kings who had taken his nephew, Lot, captive, Melchizedek, king of Salem, met him with bread and wine. Melchizedek was “the priest of God Most High” (verse 18). He blessed Abraham and said, “Blessed be Abram of God Most High, Creator of heaven and earth: and blessed be God Most High, who has delivered your enemies into your hand. And Abram gave him a tenth of everything” (verse 19-20). Abraham gave tithes to Melchizedek, the priest of God, of whom Hebrews 7:3 says he was “without father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days nor end of life, but made like the Son of God, he continually remains a priest”. And Psalm 110:1, 4 speaking of the Messiah, the Anointed One to come, says, “The Lord said to my lord, ‘Sit at My right hand, until I make your enemies your footstool.’ …The Lord has sworn and will not change, ‘You are a priest forever after the order of Melchizedek.”

In Deuteronomy 26 The Lord commands His people to bring the tithe to the priest who shall be in those days. The children of Israel were to put their tithes in a basket and say before The Lord words of remembrance of how He had delivered them from the bondage of slavery in Egypt and express thanksgiving to Him for the abundance of all things.

According to Hebrews 7, Jesus is our High Priest in these days of the New Covenant. Verse 8m speaking of Him, says, “And here mortal men receive tithes; but there (at the right hand of God), he receives them, of whom it is witnessed that he lives. (New King James) All of Hebrews 7 is speaking of Jesus, our great High Priest, who receives our tithes in heaven because of the power of His endless life.

That settles the issue. Tithing is as much New Testament as it is Old Testament. The money is the tithe, but nothing is done with the mouth before Jesus, our great High Priest. So, when you prepare your tithe, adapt the words The Lord commanded from Deuteronomy 26 and profess with your mouth to Him your gratefulness about being in His glorious kingdom. Expect Him to take your basket (tithe) before the heavenly altar of God and worship the Father with it.

Say before The Lord, “I was a sinner, held in bondage and in darkness by satan (Ephesians 5:8). I was lost and undone, without hope and without God in the world (Ephesians 2:12). I cried unto You, Lord Jesus, the shepherd and guardian of my soul (I Peter 2:25), and You heard my cry (Psalm 34:15). You lifted me out of my affliction and oppression (Deuteronomy 26:7). You took me in and forgave me (Acts 26:18;Ephesians 1:7; Colossians 1:14). You made me Yours through Your shed blood and gave me authority over the evil one (Matthew 10:8; 28:18-19; Mark 16:17-21; Luke 10:19). Now I have brought the firstfruits of my land that You have given me (Deuteronomy 26:10). I expect You to set it before the Father and worship Him with it (verse 4). Now, look down from Heaven, Holy Father, in Jesus’ Name and bless me (verse 15), Your son/daughter and servant, according to Your riches in glory. Bless my land (job) and cause it to flow with milk and honey (verse 15) as You have promised in Your Word. I am Your very own child. You are my very own Father (2 Corinthians 6:18).”

Rejoice and praise God for His great goodness in your life (Deuteronomy 26:11), that the devourer is rebuked for your sake, and that the windows of heaven are open to you, pouring out so much abundant blessing that there shall not even be room enough to receive it (Malachi 3:10-11).

The Tithe – Luke 6:38

“Give, and it will be given to you; Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will men give unto you. For with the measure you use, it will be measured unto you.”

We must learn to manage our finances by heaven’s economics. The basis of God’s financial system is, “Give, and it will be given to you”. Remember that God is love (1John 4:8), and Love (God) so loved the world, that He gave. He gave Himself – His very best – His only begotten Son. It was the greatest gift of all time, given in God’s intense, unconditional covenant to redeem fallen mankind. When the Son of His love died in your place on Calvary’s Cross, He had you on His mind.

When you act on The Word of God and give from a heart of love for God, who so loved you and all of mankind (John 3:16), the desires of your heart will begin to grow and line up with God’s desires (Philippians 2:13). He causes all grace to abound toward you (2Corinthians 9:8). But the first step is to get your mind off yourself and your needs. Begin to take up the needs of the Body of Christ as if they were your own. The Word states very plainly that if someone comes to you needing food and clothing, you’re not to just pray and send him or her away cold and hungry (James 2:15-16). Feed and clothe the person (Matthew 25:31-45).

When you are living by Luke 6:38, God will not just meet your needs according to your job or other source of income. Businessmen have said the laws of prosperity work only for me because I am a preacher, but I know preachers everywhere for whom it’s not working. Some have said, “But I don’t have the opportunity for people to give to me. I’m not out preaching. People don’t think of me when they give. I have to work for mine.”

God didn’t make His covenant with a preacher. He made it with a farmer, a working man named Abram. In Genesis 14:23 Abram turned to the Sodomite king and said, “I don’t even want the string from your sandal because you could say a man made Abram rich.” No man made Abraham rich. God made him rich. This needs to be our attitude. We must do it His way.

The basic principle of God to supply the Body of Christ and allow the Body of Christ to supply the world is summed up in Ecclesiastes 11:1: “Cast your bread upon the waters, for you will find it after many days.” Give, and after a while, it will come back to you again. You must begin “casting your bread” sometime – tomorrow will never do. And you can’t wait until your bread comes back before you cast it out. Many who are waiting for their “ship to come in” have never sent one out! Things don’t work that way. It would be like saying to a stove, “Give me some heat, and I’ll put in some wood.” No, The Word says you give, and then it will be given to you. The key is to give continually. As you continue walking in The Word, and God’s prosperity is being produced in your life, you will reach a point when your bread is coming back to you on every wave! It is your job to put it on the water. It is God’s job to see that it comes back. If you do your job and let God do His, then you will be continually receiving. The more you give, the more you will receive. The more you get, the more you will have to give. God intended for these things to work this way. When you get to this point, more will be coming in than you can give away!

If you have more faith in your job and your own ability to work than you have in The Word of God, then these things will definitely not work for you. God will certainly use what’s available in your job to bless you, and He’ll even get you a better one. But He’s not limited to supplying through your job or other income source, unless you limit Him to it.

There is a fundamental truth that runs throughout the Bible in God’s history of dealing with man. Every time there was a need, no matter what it was, God had someone, somewhere, who had the resources to meet the need – spiritual, physical, or financial. For Israel, there was Moses. For the world, there was Jesus. For Jesus, there was a man with a donkey. For Ephesus, there was Paul. Ephesians 4:11 says God gave gifts to men – apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers. He has someone He can use to help supply every need. No one person will ever be so spiritual he doesn’t need others. We all need one another. And as you bless others, God will use others to bless you.

Expand your vision. Begin to include the Body of Christ and the lost in your needs. If someone were to come to you needing clothes, and you had no clothes to give, both of you would be in trouble. You need clothes for yourself, and you need to be able to supply others with clothes. Jesus said, “Take no thoughts, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?… For you heavenly Father knows that you have need of all these things” (Matthew 6:31-32). But He also said, “Give, and it will be given to you: Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will men give unto you. For with the measure you use, it will be measured unto you” (Luke 6:38).

When I realized this and began considering the needs of others before my own, I found my needs were met supernaturally. I had spent nearly all my adult life in debt. It seemed every business venture I tried just fell apart, leaving me even further in debt. I finally turned to The Lord, determined to commit myself to His Word. I began walking my bedroom floor with my Bible in my hands, shouting at the top of my voice, “My God meets all my needs according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:19)!” I kept confessing this hour after hour, day after day. My situation looked absolutely impossible at the time. I had no place to preach and nothing much to say except, of course, Philippians 4:19. But as I learned to include other people in my needs by giving to and getting involved with them, eleven months later I was completely out of debt. When I began to give, I suddenly realized one day how very busy I was with God’s work. Years have come and gone, and I haven’t caught up yet. When you live this way, supplying the needs of others and believing God to bless you so you can be a blessing, God will move heaven and earth, if necessary, to supply your needs.

The Tithe – Malachi 3:8-12

“Will a man rob God? Yet you have robbed me. But you say, “How have we robbed You?”

“In tithes and offerings. You are cursed with a curse, your whole nation, for you are robbing Me. Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be food in My house, and test Me now in this, says the Lord of Hosts, if I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you a blessing, that there will not be room enough to receive it. I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, so that it will not destroy the fruit of your ground, and the vines in your field will not fail to bear fruit, says the Lord of Hosts. Then all the nations will call you blessed, for you will be a delightful land, says the Lord of Hosts.”

Tithing lays the foundation for financial success and abundance. Tithing from a heart of love and faith toward God begins to establish deposits with Him that can be used when you need them. Don’t wait until your back is against the wall before you use your faith in this area. Build your faith when things are going well. Learn to act on The Word now, and when the time comes that satan tries to pin you against the wall, you can smile and know you have it made. You’re a tither: satan’s power over you, financially, has been stopped.

When you stand on the covenant of God as a tither and exercise your tithing rights, satan has no chance against you. Malachi 3:11 says God has rebuked the devourer for your sake. If your back is against the wall financially now, don’t wait to begin tithing – you cannot afford to wait. The first 10 percent – the tithe – belongs to God in the first place. Verses 8-9 say, “Will a man rob God? Yet you have robbed Me. But you say, ‘How have we robbed You?’ In tithes and offerings. You are cursed with a curse…” A person who does not tithe is robbing God and operating under a curse because of it. God is not the one cursing you. The curse was already in the earth because of Adam’s sin. God provided a way for the devourer to be rebuked from off your finances and all you possess. He promised that He would rebuke the devourer for your sake if you would do this. If you don’t have any money, find something you do have, and give it. There is no faster or surer way to break the curse.

When money begins to come into your hands, just take out God’s tithe and present it to Him. “Honor the Lord with your capital and sufficiency (from righteous labors) and with the firstfruits of all your income; so shall your storage places be filled with plenty, and your vats shall be overflowing with new wine” (Proverbs 3:9-10, Amplified Bible).

Remember, the Word says God gives us the power to get wealth (Deuteronomy 8:18) and that THE BLESSING of the Lord makes rich (Proverbs 10:22). When you tithe, God is giving you the 90 percent and receiving the 10 percent for His work in the earth to provide ministry for you. Ephesians 4:11-12 says, “And he gave some to be apostles; prophets; evangelists; pastors and teachers; for the equipping of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the building up of the body of Christ.” You can never out-give God! He always gives back His 10 percent to see to it that you are perfected, equipped, and edified.

Jesus is the One who handles and receives the tithe. You are presenting it to Him. Hebrews 7-8 says, “In the one case mortal men receive tithes, but in the other he of who it is witnessed that he is alive receives them.” Pray and let the Lord of the tithe tell you where it should go.

The tithe, or tenth, is the money, but tithing is done with the mouth. Deuteronomy 26 tells you what to say as you hold your tithe before the Lord. In the new covenant you can build your confession based on what the children of Israel were told to say to the priest in those days. Jesus is now our High Priest to whom we bring the tithe. You can say something like this: “I was a sinner, held in bondage and in darkness by satan. I cried unto the Lord Jesus, and He heard my cry. He lifted me out of my affliction and oppression. He took me in and forgave me. He made me His through His shed blood and gave me authority over the evil one. Now I have brought the first fruits of my land that You have given me. I expect You, Lord, to set it before the Father and worship Him with it. Now, Father, look down from heaven, Your Holy habitation, in Jesus’ Name and bless me, Your son/daughter and servant, according to Your riches in glory. Bless my land (job) and cause it to flow with milk and honey as You have Promised in Your Word. I am Your very own child. You are my very own Father.” Now, praise The Lord and thank Him for your deliverance and authority over satan. Rejoice in all the good things The Lord has given you and your household by sharing them in the love of God.

Do your part in tithing, with the words of your mouth. Then bring the tithe to your High Priest, The Lord Jesus. Just like the earthly priests in the old covenant, He’ll take it and enter into the holy place in heaven to worship the Father with it. See your tithe with the eye of faith being taken by Jesus into the heavenly holy of holies. As you inject faith into your tithing, it comes back with Jesus’ administration on it, which then opens the windows of heaven and begins to pour out blessing on you until you can’t contain it. Make it a time of rejoicing and realizing anew the glorious things Jesus Christ has done for you. Thank Him for delivering you from a land of darkness and scarcity and bringing you into His promised land of plenty, mercy, joy, and peace. When you tithe in faith, you may soon find it to be one of the most exciting things you can do!

“Father, I thank You and praise You for translating me from the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom that You have prepared for me. Thank You that it is a kingdom of mercy, a kingdom of joy, a kingdom of peace and a kingdom of abundance.

“I bring my tithe now to You, Lord Jesus. It is the firstfruits of what You have given me, and I plant it in Your kingdom as a seed of blessing, expecting the rich blessings of heaven to be multiplied to me in return.

“I thank You, Lord, that You’ve rebuked Satan for my sake, and I stand in agreement with Your Word that he’ll not destroy my land. He’ll not destroy my blessings, and he’ll not destroy my crop in the field. I am a citizen of Your kingdom. I have the rights and privileges of a citizen of that kingdom, and I stand upon them. Thank You, Jesus, that heaven’s unlimited resources are mine in Your Name! Amen.”

Tither’s Rights

Do you know what your rights are as a tither? If you’re suffering any setbacks in life, you can put a stop to them! Learn about 3 tithers’ rights every Christian should know.

God wants you blessed! There’s no question about it—God’s will is for His people to prosper and enjoy a life of “always having all sufficiency in all things” (2 Corinthians 9:8, KJV). Why don’t Christians always live this way? The answer is often a lack of obedience and a lack of knowledge. However, when you’re in obedience to God’s Word, as a tither, you are a candidate for prosperity!

But you’re going to have to protect your rights because you have an enemy who wants to steal, kill and destroy everything that belongs to you. Here is something you need to know: Satan has no authority in your life—but he’s an outlaw, so he sure is going to try anyway. Your job? To enforce your rights according to the Word of God.

There are promises in His Word reserved for those who act on it through tithing. Yet, most tithing Christians have not learned how to claim those rights! Malachi 3:10-11 is clear about what a tither can expect to receive from the Lord:

“Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be food in My house, and try Me now in this,” says the Lord of Hosts, “if I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you such blessing that there will not be room enough to receive it. And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, so that he will not destroy the fruit of your ground, nor shall the vine fail to bear fruit for you in the field,” says the Lord of Hosts (NKJV).

This verse covers a lot of spiritual ground. There’s a world of revelation waiting to be discovered within these powerful words. And it all starts with the tithe.

What Is Tithing?

Tithe simply means “tenth.” To tithe is to give 10 percent of your gross income to the Lord. It is God’s design to increase and prosper His people through the principles of giving and receiving return on that giving (Luke 6:38).

When did tithing begin?

It is amazing how many believers waste their energies arguing whether or not tithing is a New Testament doctrine. Tithing didn’t begin with the Law! According to Genesis 4:2-4, before the Law was ever given to Moses, Abel and Cain brought the firstfruits of their labor to God. Again in Genesis 14, we find that Abraham tithed—before the Law.

But Old Testament tithing was just a shadow of what was to come. Although the Old Covenant saints were blessed through their tithing, we enjoy even greater blessings through our tithing today, because we bring our tithes to a High Priest who is greater than Melchizedek or any other Old Covenant priest (Hebrews 4-8)!

But above all else, tithing is giving honor to God. Proverbs 3:9-10 says, “Honor the Lord with your possessions, and with the first fruits of all your increase; so your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will overflow with new wine” (NKJV). It is such an honor and privilege to respect and honor our Provider with such a small gift as the tithe.

That’s why tithing isn’t just a matter of the pocketbook. It is a matter of the heart. So, if you’ve been tithing as a religious routine, out of compulsion or without faith—that’s just bucket plunking. That’s not tithing. One who gives cheerfully is a true tither in the eyes of God (2 Corinthians 9:7). If you’re not a tither, repent and get in on the tithing blessing!

When you are a tither, you have special rights and protections that you can put to work every day! You don’t have to tolerate attacks on your finances, possessions, family or health, and you can expect to walk in favor on every side. Here are three tithers’ rights every Christian should know.

Tithers’ Right No. 1:  God Rebukes the Devourer for Your Sake in Finances       “And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes….” –Malachi 3:11 (NKJV)

If you’re not actively engaged in acting on the Word of God in tithing, you’re missing out on the devourer being rebuked for your sake. It won’t matter how loud you holler and scream at the devil, if you refuse to tithe, then God is not obligated to rebuke the devourer on your behalf.

As one preacher said, tithe money that isn’t devoted to the Lord will just blow up in your pocket. You’ll have to spend it on one crisis after another until it’s all used up. Right after the refrigerator needs repair, the car will break down. Or you will have unexpected medical bills, and on and on it goes.

But the tither has privileges.

One of those is protection from the devourer. He comes to steal your money, your seed, your job and your possessions. And he’ll often get away with it—unless you put a stop to it. So, when lack tries to come in your life, you say “No, you don’t, lack!”. If you get laid off you say, “Lord, where’s my better job? Show me where to find a better job. I never go without. I am prosperous. I am blessed. I am a tither. The windows of heaven are open to me.”

Tithers’ rights cover every economic situation—they put you above and not beneath the economy. No recession is going to shut the tithers’ windows of heaven—not even something as severe as the Great Depression.

That’s what Kenneth Copeland’s parents found out when they were first married. Their commitment to tithing delivered them out of what could have been deep financial trouble. They had such a deep understanding of the importance of tithing that they included a commitment to tithe in their wedding vows. Then the Great Depression hit. People all around them were unemployed, struggling and suffering. But Kenneth’s father always had a job. He was blessed and protected. God took care of them through the Depression, and they never experienced the hurt, shame or agony of those difficult times like so many others. They were “always having and always abounding” (2 Corinthians 9:81 Corinthians 15:58) under their tithers’ rights.

That’s the kind of protection you should expect in your finances as a tither. Sometimes, you’ll have to contend for it. If Satan attacks your job or your business, you support God’s rebuke and remind the devil, “You are rebuked for my sake. You’re a liar and the father of it. Now take your hands off my money, my job and my possessions!” Take those tithing check stubs and knock him in the head with them. You show him that receipt from your heavenly account and tell him to turn tail and run the other way. You have tithers’ rights!

Those rights cover your possessions, too. Pastor George Pearsons shared a story about the time when the microwave in his kitchen went out. The clock was going, but it wasn’t working on the inside. It went on for a while until revelation came on the inside of him. He walked up to it, slapped it and said, “Tithers’ rights. In the Name of Jesus, we are tithers, and our stuff works.” And it began to work again!

You should replace your possessions when you want to—not when they try to tell you to. Everything you own should last longer and work stronger than it would in the natural. That’s favor—and that’s your right as a tither.

Tithers’ Right No. 2: To Receive an Outpouring of Blessings                                          “[I will] open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you such blessing that there will not be room enough to receive it.” –Malachi 3:10 (NKJV)

God is talking specifically to tithers in this verse. The windows of heaven are open over tithers. And God says He will pour out such a blessing, you won’t have room for it! That’s the purpose of abundance—to be living in so much overflow that you keep giving it away and furthering the kingdom of God.

The blessing of the tither is what puts us over financially.

That’s why it is so perplexing why some Christians will fight tooth and nail against the principle of tithing. It’s for their benefit! Jerry Savelle warns, “Don’t let Satan’s excuses keep you from faithfully honoring God with your tithes. The ‘windows of heaven’ represent an outflow of God’s blessings showering you in every part of your life. It’s God responding to our obedience to His Word. Why would anyone want to close those windows in their life? That really doesn’t make sense.”

Does tithing really open the windows of heaven?

There was once a farmer who was determined to find out. He decided to see how much he would increase when he tithed 10 percent of every harvest. His plan was to sow 1 cubic inch of wheat, which is 360 kernels. He committed to the Lord that, for a period of six years, he would tithe 10 percent of the harvest and sow the rest. In the first year, it took a 4-foot by 8-foot plot of land to sow 1 cubic inch of seed. At harvest time, he scraped the ground to get every kernel of wheat. Every precious seed counted. The first year produced a fiftyfold harvest. He tithed 10 percent.

In the second year, it took a 24-foot by 60-foot plot of land to sow the seed from the harvest of the first year. He tithed 10 percent. In the third year, it took three-quarters of an acre to sow. He tithed 10 percent. In the fourth year, it took 14 acres to sow. He tithed 10 percent. In the fifth year, it took 230 acres to sow. He tithed 10 percent. By the sixth year, it took over 2,600 acres to sow 5,000 bushels. Three hundred sixty kernels had turned into 55 billion.

The farmer made $288,000 in six years, compared to the other farmers who only made an average of $21,000. The experiment worked. Just like He did for this farmer, God will bless your harvest when you tithe!

Tithers’ Right No. 3: The Devourer Will Be Rebuked in Your Family                           “And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes….’” –Malachi 3:11 (NKJV)

Did you know when God said He will rebuke the devourer for your sake, it includes more than money? As a tither, you have rights that extend beyond the financial realm— you have the promise that God will rebuke the devil from devouring anything in your life.

The family of Pastor Mark Barclay learned this truth a few years ago when tragedy tried to strike. The family had gathered at Mark’s daughter and son-in-law’s home for a party and picnic. After a time, they noticed that Mark’s 9-year-old granddaughter had not been seen in quite a while. As they looked for her, they saw her at the bottom of the pool. Her hair had caught in the suction drain and she couldn’t get loose.

Her dad jumped in and pulled her out, but she had drowned and wasn’t breathing. The paramedics came and began to declare her deceased. But before they could speak, Mark’s son-in-law, the little girl’s father, shouted at the top of his voice, “No you don’t! I claim my tithing rights! The devourer has been rebuked for my sake! You take your hands off my child!”. He continued walking around the pool shouting, “Tithing rights! Tithing rights!”

Within minutes, the little girl sat up and was completely fine. The paramedics insisted on taking her to the hospital. When they arrived, the doctor said, “Where’s the patient?” The paramedic pointed to the little girl. He said, “You?” She said, “Yes! Jesus just raised me from the dead!” Hallelujah! Tithers’ rights.

The devourer has been rebuked by God for our sake in every area of our lives—including our health, our unborn children or our right to bear children (Malachi 3:11). All we have to do is enforce it.

So, when the devil comes and tries to steal anything in your life, you enforce your rights and shout, “You’re not taking my healing, children or finances away from me! I’m a tither! Satan, you’ve been rebuked. Healing belongs to me, the windows of heaven are open to me, and I receive it!”

Conclusion:

These 3 tithers’ rights every Christian should know are powerful! If you haven’t been claiming your tithers’ rights, meditate on these truths and begin to make them part of your daily life. If you aren’t a tither—you can change that today! Don’t let the devil whisper lies to keep you from the blessing and protection that comes from tithing. There is no faster or surer way to break the curse of lack and poverty because when you get God involved, He’ll begin to multiply you.

Don’t ever settle for second best, don’t settle for financial setback or your possessions breaking, don’t settle for attacks on your family—you are a tither and you have rights!

Six Lies That Create Blessing Blockers

God expects us to lay hold of what belongs to us, but we have an enemy who lies to us and tries to stop us from receiving God’s biggest blessings. He sets up roadblocks in an effort to keep us from receiving from God.

Many of these obstacles to God’s best in our lives fall under the category described in Mark 7:13: The tradition of men makes the Word of God of no effect. Traditions are demonic errors -lies really – to keep the Church in the dark. For years traditional ideas and interpretations of Scripture have kept people from receiving healing.

So I’d like to expose some of those lies of the enemy and explain why they are wrong. As we go through them, make a note of any that have become part of your thinking. Then replace those lies with what the Word really says.

Lie #1 – “Miracles have passed away.”

I grew up in a church in which we frequently heard statements like these: “Miracles have passed away” and “Healing has passed away.” But the truth is that in order for miracles and healing to pass away, God would have to change or pass away. And that can’t happen. He has already declared, “For I am the Lord, I do not change; O sons of Jacob, are not consumed” (Malachi 3:6).

He has also said, “I am the Lord who heals you” (Exodus 15:26). Sickness and disease were never God’s will for man. Sickness only came when man disobeyed God, sinned and died spiritually. At that point man became subject to the evil one. But even then, God made a way to provide healing for His people. If He ever healed anyone, He is still that same healer today. God is no respecter of persons (Acts 10:34). But we have to do our part and give Him something to work with by exercising our faith.

Lie #2 – “God gets glory from sickness.”

Sickness doesn’t bring glory to God. Healing does. As Jesus healed the multitudes, Matthew 15:31 says, “When they saw the mute speak, the maimed made whole, the lame walk, and the blind see…they glorified the God of Israel.”

Lie #3 – “All things work together for good…”

A scripture that is often taken out of context and misunderstood is Romans 8:28: “All things work together for good to those that love God.” If you believe this means sickness is somehow for your good, you won’t resist it. But the Bible is very plain in what it says about sickness. The curse spelled out in Deuteronomy 28 includes “every sickness, and every plague” (verse 61).

Curses do not come from God. He is good to everyone (Psalm 145:9). Acts 10:38 says, “How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with Him.”

When you read Romans 8:28 in context, its meaning becomes clear: “Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weaknesses, for we know not what to pray for as we ought: but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. And We know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.” (Romans 8:26-28).

This is not saying everything that comes along is working for your good. This is about those who love God. Those who love God obey His Word: “For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous” (1 John 5:3). When we obey God we enjoy the blessing of God.

The will of God is always good, but not everyone is in the will of God. This scripture is talking about the things of the Spirit working for our good. The Spirit makes intercession on our behalf when we pray in the spirit. When we obey God all things work together for good.

Everything that comes your way does not come from God and does not bring good into your life. You have the authority in you to obey or disobey. For instance, cancer does not work for your good. Car wrecks do not work for your good. They come to steal, kill and destroy. If you think these things come from God you will receive them instead of resist them.

Lie #4 – “God puts sickness on you to teach you something.”

Sickness is not good. So when people say, “God puts sickness on you to teach you something,” that is totally unscriptural. The Bible says God uses His Word to teach us. He has sent the Holy Spirit to teach us. In Deuteronomy 28 God says if you don’t obey Me, all these curses will come on you. That’s not the will of God. God’s will is your redemption from the curse in Christ Jesus (Galatians 3:13). Through ignorance, unbelief or rebellion and disobedience, we open the door to evil in our lives.

According to 2 Timothy 3:16-17, “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.”

God sent the Holy Spirit to be the teacher of the Church (John 14:26). He will guide you into all truth (John 16:13). God also placed teachers in the Church to instruct us (Ephesians 4:11-12). Therefore, He doesn’t use sickness to do that.

Many believers labor under the misconception that whatever happens to them is God’s doing. As a result, they take no responsibility for anything and put up no resistance to the enemy when he brings sickness and disease.

If you don’t resist sickness, it won’t go away. The enemy will continue to rule and reign in your life. You must resist the devil if you don’t want him to live with you. James 4:7 says ‘Resist the devil, and he will flee.”

Jesus delivered people from sickness everywhere He went, and He rebuked it! He was never a friend of sickness and disease. He always did the will of God and you never saw Jesus instructing anyone to stay sick.

Lie #5 – “Lord, if it be Thy will…”

A traditional prayer that will help you die young is “Lord, if it be Thy will, heal my body.” Consequently, praying this shows you have not been reading your Bible, and you don’t have a clue about God or His will. It’s always His will to heal.

Perhaps you’ve been going to the wrong church. You should come out of a church service with your faith more built up than when you went in. Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God (Romans 10:17). But if you don’t hear and believe what the Word says, your faith won’t be strong.

Lie #6 – Unbelief is “OK.”

Even Jesus couldn’t heal those who were in unbelief. In His hometown of Nazareth, “He did not do many mighty works there because of their unbelief” (Matthew 13:58).

Unbelief is the major blessing blocker, and that’s why it’s imperative for you to know what the Word says and believe it enough to act on it. All the traditions I’m talking about are the result of unbelief.

Unbelief comes by hearing just like faith comes by hearing. So, it’s dangerous to your health to listen to unbelief.

There is no good reason to sit under teaching that’s full of unbelief if you desire to live and live well. Go where the uncompromised Word of God is being taught because your life depends on it.

Galatians 3:11 says, “The just shall live by faith.” That means believers are to live by believing what the Bible says. You are healed by believing and acting on what the Word says about your healing. It takes believing and acting to fulfill the word receive!

God’s Will is to Heal

How do we know whether it’s God’s will to heal us or not? It makes little difference what others say about it. What did He say about it?

Remember that God is no respecter of persons (Acts 10:34) and He never changes (Malachi 3:6). So what He said to them yesterday, He is saying to you today. God’s word is God speaking to me.

These statements are taken directly from the Bible with little or no variation. The verbs and construction have been changed to apply to you personally and to sum up the thoughts in some instances. Also, many of these statements are prefaced by phrases like, “If you walk in My commandments”, “If you believe…obey…” etc.

What did God say about healing and our health?

God Is My Source

God is your Source!  Sound easier to say than believe? When it comes to standing in faith for things we know we need to survive or want so desperately, the battle is on. Satan is waiting in the wings to convince you that God isn’t going to meet your needs. He’ll tell you God doesn’t want to help you or that He won’t make it in time. These are lies, lies and more lies.

The truth? God is your Source—the perfect and on-time Source for everything you could ever need or want. But, you have to receive Him as your one and only Source by faith. The Word of God will renew your mind, feed your faith, and get you where you need to be to receive—a place where every need you have is completely met, every bill is paid, every debt removed, and every sickness and disease healed. If you allow it, God will be your Source for everything you need.

I lead in the way of righteousness, in the midst of the paths of judgment: that I may cause those who love me to inherit wealth; and I will fill their treasures.”

57.      Matthew 6:25-32

“That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn’t life more than food, and your body more than clothing? Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are? Can all your worries add a single moment to your life? And why worry about your clothing? Look at the lilies of the field and how they grow. They don’t work or make their clothing, yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are. And if God cares so wonderfully for wildflowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith? So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs.”

58.      Matthew 6:33

“But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.”

59.      Proverbs 21:21

“He who pursues righteousness and mercy finds life, righteousness and honor.”

60.     Psalm 37:4

“Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart.”

61.      2 Chronicles 26:5

“And he [King Uzziah] sought God in the days of Zechariah, who had understanding in the visions of God: and as long as he sought the Lord, God made him to prosper.”

62.     Genesis 12:2

“And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you and make your name famous and distinguished, so that you will be a blessing.”

63.     Zechariah 8:13

“Among the other nations, Judah and Israel became symbols of a cursed nation. But no longer! Now I will rescue you and make you both a symbol and a source of blessing.”

64.     1 Timothy 6:17-18

“Teach those who are rich in this world not to be proud and not to trust in their money, which is so unreliable. Their trust should be in God, who richly gives us all we need for our enjoyment. Tell them to use their money to do good. They should be rich in good works and generous to those in need, always being ready to share with others.”

65.      Psalm 37:21

“The wicked borrow and do not repay, but the righteous is gracious and gives”

66.     Psalm 37:25-26

“I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken nor their children begging bread. They are always gracious and lend freely; their children are a source of blessing.”

67.      Luke 12:33-34

“Be generous. Give to the poor. Get yourselves a bank that can’t go bankrupt, a bank in heaven far from bank robbers, safe from embezzlers, a bank you can bank on. It’s obvious, isn’t it? The place where your treasure is, is the place you will most want to be, and end up being.”

68.     Proverbs 11:25

“A generous man will prosper; he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed.”

69.     Galatians 6:10

“Let us practice generosity to all, while the opportunity is ours; and above all, to those who are of one family with us in the faith.”

70.      2 Corinthians 9:6-8

“Remember this—a farmer who plants only a few seeds will get a small crop. But the one who plants generously will get a generous crop. You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure. ‘For God loves a person who gives cheerfully.’ And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others.”

Receiving Communion

“To be spoken by mouth three times a day until faith comes, then once a day to maintain faith.

If circumstances grow worse, double the dosage. There are no harmful side effects.”

—Charles Capps

You don’t have to wait until you go to church to receive Communion. You can receive it anytime and anywhere. Take the time to put yourself before God over the Communion table and speak these powerful words over your life.

“Lord, it’s not right that I should suffer from sickness and disease. I judge it now as being from Satan, and I reject it. I refuse to receive it any longer. I partake of the sacrifice of Your body, and I receive the healing that You provided in Jesus’ Name. When I partake of Communion, I make a point of judging myself to the fullest extent. I won’t just receive it halfway. I accept everything Jesus’ sacrifice provided.

Father, we give You thanks for all You have provided for us in Christ Jesus. We confess this day that we are the blessed of the Lord. This covenant we entered into at the new birth is a covenant filled with the exceeding great and precious promises of God, and we are partakers of those promises now!

We are healed. We are redeemed. We are delivered from the authority of darkness. We are translated into the kingdom of God’s dear Son. We are the head and not the tail. We are above and not beneath. We come behind in no good thing. All that we set our hands to prospers, and we praise You, Father, for the newness of life we now enjoy. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.”

Words Impact Your Life

“The tongue can bring death or life; those who love to talk will reap the consequences.”

 –Proverbs 18:21

The words we speak have power. They can bring life or death. They can build up or tear down. They can empower or destroy. Whether they are the words we speak to one another or the ones we think about ourselves, words make a difference. Right now, let’s look at three ways the words we speak impact our lives.

1.The words we speak are our profession.

“Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus; who was faithful to him that appointed him, as also Moses was faithful in all his house.” –Hebrews 3:1-2, KJV

This passage refers to Jesus as the “Apostle and High Priest of our profession.” The word profession can also be translated confession. In the Greek, it means to “say the same thing.” We are responsible to say the same thing that Jesus says. Then He, as our Apostle and High Priest, is responsible to bring it to pass. When we speak words of life that line up with God’s Word, we are trusting Jesus to bring them to pass, and that’s exactly what He will do!

2.The words we speak are our protection.

“Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty. This I declare about the Lord: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; he is my God, and I trust him.” –Psalm 91:1-2

We serve an awe-inspiring God who is above everything. He’s above every calamity, every illness, every stronghold and every attack of the enemy. And just as Psalm 91 shows us, we’re to proclaim His protection and goodness. We’re to exalt Him, not our adversities. When the enemy strikes, we have a choice: We can either declare the truth that God is on our side and we will never lose, or we can continue to believe the lie that we’re going under. And whatever we set our mind to is what we will receive. If you want God’s goodness, healing, peace, joy and healthy relationships, then begin to proclaiming those things. Remember, you “will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty”!

3.The words we speak are our privilege!

“And I tell you this, you must give an account on judgment day for every idle word you speak. The words you say will either acquit you or condemn you.” –Matthew 12:36-37

When we speak words of doubt and unbelief, we are sinning against God. That sounds extreme, doesn’t it? But if we speak words that are contrary to God’s Word or if we speak words that proclaim that God is something He isn’t, then it is sin. God’s Word tells us that we are joint heirs with Jesus (Romans 8:17), overcomers (1 John 5:4), healed (Isaiah 53:5), joyful (Psalm 28:7) and prosperous (Philippians 4:19). It is our privilege to not only walk in this truth but to announce it for others to hear. Giving glory to God for all that we have is a powerful part of living thankful lives. We are acknowledging that it isn’t through our human strength but by the power of Jesus that we walk in freedom. It is also a declaration that what we say is the truth, and that truth affects change!

The words you speak are important. They hold life within them. If this is an area of weakness for you, then challenge yourself. Commit to changing your life by changing the words you speak. First, ask the Holy Spirit to strengthen, convict and comfort you when you speak words that are contrary to God. Then begin meditating on His Word and declaring their truth over your life. Let God’s Word change you from the inside out. When you do, you will—without a doubt—walk in all God has for you!
